Terminal 3 of Harbin International Airport in China has been under construction. And in 2019, the architect company MAD Architects revealed the design of Terminal 3 with a snowflake shape. The reason why the company chose Snowflake is due to the heavy snowy weather of the region. Therefore, the building successfully reflects the characteristics of both the geography and climate of Harbin.
As you know, China has 23 provinces with capitals. Harbin is the capital of Heilongjiang Province, playing an important strategic role. One of the roles of the city is transportation. Terminal 3 of Harbin International Airport will cover 3,300 hectares. The terminal will host transportation hubs, retail, parking lots, and hotels.
43 Million Passengers per year
Terminal 3 has a massive area. Therefore, many people have questioned the ease of travel for passengers. MAD explained that their human-scale program provides an experience that is both efficient and energy-saving. The snowflake shape of the building has five-finger departure corridors. These corridors shorten the time it takes for passengers to arrive at their gates. In addition, the corridors improve the efficiency of Harbin International Airport.
The architecture company did not forget about adding natural elements to Terminal 3 of Harbin International Airport. There are several indoor gardens forming rich greenery areas. Moreover, the gardens connect the different levels of the building. Besides all that, the gardens help passengers escape from the rush of the airport. The roof of the terminal is covered with ridges that help reduce the use of artificial light.
According to the research, terminal 3 of Harbin International Airport will host approximately 43 million passengers by 2030. The expected outgoing flight capacity is 320,000, which is a sign that the airport will improve its services both for passengers and cargo. Harbin Taiping International Airport will be built with a 21st-century vision, representing both local and modern culture.
