Made of natural fibres (wool) or synthetic fibres (acrylic), felt is a non-woven textile made by condensing, pressing and matting fibres together. There are types of felt that are soft but in the same time, there is this other type of tough felt that is suitable to form construction materials. Depending on the use of it, felt can vary in colors, thickness, density or fiber content. The origins of felt making have different legends in many cultures. Nowadays felt making is still practised by Altaic people like Mongols or Turkic, while tents, rugs and clothing are regularly made in Central Asia. Some of these creations are traditional items, while others are specially made for the tourist market. In our days, in the Western world, felt is used in textile art and design, where it has the status of an ecological textile. This is the fabric that helps building a warm cocoon, a felt pod, a place to hide designed by Freyja Sewell. It is a hand-sewn product out of biodegradable felt. “Hush” is an object-space that can be set up anywhere offering a dark, soft, quiet and natural place for a break from daily stress and from other people.
