How Sungai Design Transforms Plastic Waste

Turning Bali’s plastic pollution into purposeful products is no small feat. But Sungai Design has developed a unique and effective process to do just that. With a mission to create value from waste, the team follows a carefully structured approach that ensures environmental responsibility, social impact, and high-quality craftsmanship.

The best part is you can see the “Made from Bali River Plastic” label on the products. These labels emphasize how plastics pollute Bali and the surrounding environment.

Step 1: Plastic Waste Collection

Sungai Design partners with local communities, waste collectors, and cleanup organizations to gather plastic waste directly from Bali’s beaches, streets, and rivers.

Step 2: Sorting and Cleaning

Collected plastic is sorted by type and color to ensure optimal quality for production.

Step 3: Shredding and Processing

Once clean, the employees shred the plastic into small, manageable flakes. These flakes are then processed using custom-designed machinery that melts and molds the plastic into usable raw materials without the use of harmful chemicals.

Step 4: Finishing and Quality Control

Each product undergoes detailed finishing touches, including sanding, polishing, and sealing. Rigorous quality checks ensure that every item meets the brand’s high standards for durability, aesthetics, and eco-friendliness.
