Renault, a well-known French carmaker created an electric concept car that pays homage to the legendary Renault 5 back in 2022. Which is one of the most popular and beloved hatchbacks in France. Besides being a road car, the model was a popular one in the rallying scene as well. The Renault 5 Diamant, which literally means diamond in French, is the result of a collaboration between Renault and Pierre Gonalons. Who is a renowned product and interior designer. One of the surprising aspects of the special edition design is that it is electric! Making it a zero-emission vehicle that respects the environment.

More Than Just An Electric Renault 5

The Diamant is not just a simple restomod of the original car, but a reinterpretation that blends retro charm with modern elegance. The car features a frosted tri-coat paint in a purplish-pink hue, contrasted by goldish-greige bumpers and rocker panels. The headlights and taillights were redesigned to resemble jewel-like shapes, hence the name Diamant. The creators borrowed the wheels from the sporty Renault 5 Alpine, but with a more aerodynamic design. So, it is safe to say that this concept is a result of passion.

A Luxurious Modernized Interior

The interior of the Renault 5 Diamant is a cozy and chic space. It is equipped with a minimalist dashboard that only has three dials and a smartphone holder. The steering wheel’s design is a masterpiece of craftsmanship. Made of marble and brass, it has a curvy shape that evokes the Renault logo. The door handles, window switches, and hatch latch are also brass, and shaped like round spheres. The car also features a fingerprint reader to unlock the doors, adding a touch of security and sophistication. The Renault 5 Diamant is not intended for mass production. The special electric car was rather a tribute to the 50 years of the Renault 5, which debuted in 1972 and sold over 5 million units until 1984…
